The world is becoming a lonely place,
with everyone so connected.
Folks don't answer their telephones
unless you are clever at texting.
Caller ID is a handy invention
for giving folks the dodge;
Few have time for Grandma and Mom.
It's Facebook and You Tube and ipods!
Each is learning to avoid the other,
caught up in his very own spaces;
married to devices of man's inventions
and robotic, digital embraces.
I'm getting older every day;
the world is fast passing by.
If you miss the service and the visitation;
don't blame the family, they tried!

It started when someone invented the fax,
You don’t even need a stamp!
Then came the pagers and caller id;
wow, how cool is that!
Then cellular phones, and the internet;
this’ll really improve your life!
Now clients are calling at dinner time
and It's feeling a bit more like strife.
Email started in a similar way.
It goes with single mouse click;
Hundreds to read, with thousands of junk,
(It's starting to make me sick).
I gave up on passwords at about two dozen,
If you know my dog’s name, I’m screwed,
Take that and tack on numbers and stuff;
It's the key to any site you choose.
How I long for a life that gives me some time
To make sure that my answers are right,
No chance of that, “I need an answer right now”
Can’t think about it overnight!
I didn’t invent this crazy world.
Just playing the game best I can.
Got a mortgage to pay, kids to feed,
Sorry…it’s all gotten out of hand.
